Description
I am selling this amazing antique drum from the FIRST USS Chicago from 1885See the wikipedia page for the First USS Chicago => wikipedia search: USS Chicago (1885)
The first USS Chicago (later CA-14) was a protected cruiser of the United States Navy, the largest of the original three authorized by Congress for the "New Navy". One of the U.S. Navy's first four steel ships.
She was launched on 5 December 1885 by
Delaware River Iron Ship Building and Engine Works
of
Chester, Pennsylvania
, sponsored by Edith Cleborne (daughter of Navy Medical Director Cuthbert J. Cleborne) and commissioned on 17 April 1889.
The drum's beautiful lithograph details the statistics of the ship - 315ft, 48 and 1-6 breadth, 4 rapid fire, 6 revolving cannons, 2 Gatling guns, and more details (see photos). These details are corroborated by other official sources - including the wikipedia.
The drum's skins are obviously damaged because of the age, but the lithograph is in great shape, and the tin body is without any major blemishes. The rims were once blue, and a small amount of paint remains.
The coolest feature of this drum, besides the lithograph, is the secret hole, where one can peer in and view an image of a girl (see photo)
This is undoubtedly a very rare drum, and would be a wonderful addition to any collection.
Drum is 10 inches wide and 8 inches tall.
