There were a total of 40,023 1982 Isabella commemorative quarters struck by the mint.
Of these, 103 were special strikes as proof coins for collectors - which is what this coin is. How many of the original 103 proofs were lost or damaged is unknown so we don't really know how many exist today. The proof strikes were double struck so the design is very sharp to show every detail. The proof dies were polished and the design was chemically etched so the design has a frosted appearance against a very smooth mirror-like background.
Of the remaining 39.920 non-proof business strikes, 15809 were melted, 23 were sent to the Assay Commission, 24,195 Isabella quarters were distributed to the public (including the 103 proof coins).
